Weekly Worship

Every week one of our dedicated lay leaders leads worship with recruits at Great Lakes Naval Recruit Training Command.

Boot Camp draws a national cross-section of young adults age 18-35. The recruits we see are a far more diverse group than most potential newcomers to our faith. They have chosen us from many other services going on simultaneously in the chapel. Some come from a UU background, but for most, this is their first exposure to Unitarian Universalism. Some day they may find that their spiritual needs can be satisfied by the UU faith they were introduced to in our service.

On a personal level, our one hour UU service provides an island of spiritual support in the recruit’s physically and mentally rigorous training. Joys & Concerns, where they are encouraged to give their first name, is the emotional and often tearful highlight of each service.
